Power On and Power Off

Whenever the camera LED is green, it is safe to power down the camera. This is done by unplugging the power adaptor from the AC current source. There is no On/Off switch.

Power Supply Compatibility

Edgertronic-power-adaptor.jpeg

The edgertronic camera power requirements are as follows:

  • SC1 series - 12 VDC @ 1.5A
  • SC2 series - 12 VDC @ 2.5A
  • 2.5/5.5mm center positive coaxial jack

The following power supplies are approved for SC1 series cameras:

  • 120/240V AC DC Adapter: 12V 1.5A SL Power MENB1020A1203F01
  • 120/240V AC DC Adapter: 12V 2.5A SL Power ME30A1203F01

The following power supplies are approved for SC2 series cameras:

  • 120/240V AC DC Adapter: 12V 2.5A SL Power ME30A1203F01

SC1 and SC2 series cameras now ship with the ME30A1203F01 power supply. Previously, SC1 series cameras shipped with the MENB1020A1203F01 power supply. If you are having problems with your camera, verify that you are using the correct power supply.
Damages to the camera due to reversed polarity, incorrect voltage or incompatible power sources are NOT covered under warranty.

Don't even think of connecting a Trackman B1 power supply to our cameras. If you do, expect an expensive repair.

Replacement Power Supplies

Should you need a replacement or extra power supply, you can order one here: https://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/sl-power-electronics-manufacture-of-condor-ault-brands/ME30A1203F01/271-2879-ND/5400157

Important: The edgertronic camera is designed to accept Switchcraft locking power plugs. Non-locking plugs, like on the above power supply, have a shorter barrel and will need to be modified to to make reliable contact. With a sharp knife or razor blade, trim 0.1" off of the plastic over-mold so that at least 0.500" of the outer contact barrel is exposed.

The picture to the right shows the original plug on the top and the modified plug on the bottom. Note the plastic ring that was removed from the bottom plug.

Portable Battery Packs and Inverters

We use and highly recommend the Paul C Buff Vagabond Mini Inverter https://www.paulcbuff.com/Portable-Power/vagabond-mini-lithium.html
Matthew Stengler has good luck using a RAVPower lithium-ion polymer external power pack.

Power over Ethernet

The edgertronic does not directly support Power-over-Ethernet (PoE). Instead a PoE Splitter needs to be used. The power output from the splitter must be:

  • 12 volts
  • 1.5 amp minimum for SC1 and 2.5 amp minimum for SC2
  • Use a 2.5/5.5mm center positive coaxial jack

You can use either a 100Mbit/s or 1Gbit/sec PoE splitter. I tested an SC1 with a:

I had to build a custom cable since network IP cameras use 2.1/5.5mm jacks, which was supported by the cable that came with the DPE-301GS. I cut the end off the supplied cable and soldered on a:

You could also buy a pre-made cable, such as:

You might need to trim plastic from the 2.5mm ID 5.5mm plug to get it to insert all the way into the camera.

For testing, I used an

  • Amcrest AMPS5E4P 5 Port PoE+ Power Over Ethernet Poe Switch] which comes with a beefy 65 watt power supply.

Early camera warning

Important - Cameras with MAC addresses 00-1B-C5-09-60-44 and below

We have discovered a problem with early cameras if a power source other than the MENB1020A1203F01 AC adapter (listed above) is used. If you use a different power source (Car Adapter, direct wired battery etc) an internal, protection fuse will blow, requiring the camera to be returned for repair.

If you need to power the camera remotely, plug the supplied AC adapter into an inverter.

This problem applies only to cameras with MAC addresses 00-1B-C5-09-60-44 and below.

Cameras with MAC addresses 00-1B-C5-09-60-45 and above

The above mentioned problem has been fixed on cameras with MAC addresses 00-1B-C5-09-60-45 and above. If you have a camera with a MAC address of 00-1B-C5-09-60-45 or above, you can use the following additional supplies:

  • Car Adapter: 12V 5A MPD ZA5074-2.5
  • Portable Battery Pack Bescor MM-12ATM

Damages to the camera due to reversed polarity, incorrect voltage or incompatible power sources are NOT covered under warranty. That said, should you feel the need to make your own cable, you can use the following locking plug at your own risk:
