Background

This page details issues and fixes related to using security-enhanced browsers with the edgertronic camera. The problem first appears with iPadOS 14.6 around June 2021 as part of the improved Mixed Content handling. In May 2026, chrome and safari browsers for all other devices, including Windows PCs, incorporated the security enhancement which caused live view to freeze.

This problem has been fixed in software versions 2.5.1rc20 and later.

Problem Description

edgertronic camera live view is implemented by repeatedly sending JPEG frames to the browser. Prior to 2.5.1rc20 the same JPEG filename was used for each frame. A browser security enhancement required the JPEG filename to be unique. This capability was added to the edgertronic camera software version 2.5.1rc20 and newer.

Getting updated software

The Updating camera software web page contains instructions for updating to our latest version.

If you are updating from a version older than 2.5.1rc20, you will need to do a Factory Reset after the update is complete.

Update recovery

If your camera loses power during the update, the camera may not boot properly. You can directly reprogram the micro SD card to recover.
